Methodology

Know Charlotte uses Mecklenburg County / City of Charlotte Neighborhood Profile Areas (NPAs) as the primary map unit. There are roughly 458 NPAs in the current product vintage — numbered areas, not marketing names.

Named neighborhood pages (`/n/dilworth`, etc.) are curated entities that may union one or more NPAs. Metrics on those pages are population-weighted rollups across member NPAs where ACS population is available. Colloquial boundaries can differ from NPA unions; we label member NPAs on each page.

Demographics come from ACS 5-year estimates rolled to NPA. Small-area estimates have sampling error; we do not currently display MOE on every NPA rollup. Prefer directional comparisons over false precision.

Home prices on choropleths and many spokes use Quality of Life Explorer home sales indicators. Different sources are not interchangeable — each figure is labeled.

Walkability uses the EPA National Walkability Index rolled to NPA.

Data refresh cadence follows ingest jobs (typically weekly housing, periodic ACS/QoL). Page “last reviewed” dates may differ from the data period shown on metrics. Full source list: Sources.
