Charlotte crime by neighborhood: reading QoL rates

Safety searches need rates and context, not a safest list. We report QoL violent and property crime indicators on NPAs and named neighborhoods. Rates do not certify a block as safe or unsafe, and must not be used to exclude protected classes.

How neighborhoods compare on QoL crime rates

Sorted by QoL violent crime rate (lower first) for comparison only. This is not a “safest neighborhoods” ranking. Rates are reported-incident indicators with vintage lag; they do not certify any block as safe or unsafe.

How we talk about safety

People asking if an area is "safe" need rates and context, not a safest list. We publish QoL violent and property crime indicators rolled to NPAs and named neighborhoods. No safest ranking, no letter grades, no absolute safe/unsafe labels.

Rates describe reported incidents relative to population for a QoL vintage. They lag live calls for service and cannot tell you how a block feels at midnight.

Reading the table

Sorted by violent rate for comparison only. Lower first so you can see relative differences vs the city, not to crown a winner. Property crime often tells a different story in retail corridors. Always read the city column.

What rates are not

Not victimization guarantees. Not insurance underwriting. Not a substitute for visiting at the hours you would live there. Center-city nightlife districts can post higher reported rates than a quiet residential street nearby.

Never use crime or demographics to exclude protected classes under fair housing law.

Next steps

Cross-check CMPD public data. Combine with flood screening, school assignment, and day plus evening walks. Methodology covers vintage and rollups. Spoke amenities show rates where ingested.

Map note

A crime choropleth may ship later. Until then, use this guide and spoke tables with price and walk layers.
