Most walkable neighborhoods in Charlotte
EPA National Walkability Index on NPAs, plus QoL transit and sidewalk proximity where available. Uptown and rail-adjacent areas score highest; outer suburbs score lower. Use the walk layer, then open named profiles.
How we score walk
We use the EPA National Walkability Index on NPAs: intersection density, transit proximity, land-use mix. It does not score sidewalk quality, shade, or perceived safety. QoL sidewalk layers fill some gaps where available.
Scores around 15+ read as urban fabric; below 10 read as car-dependent.
Where scores run high
Uptown, South End, NoDa, Fourth Ward, and parts of Elizabeth rank high among named areas. Plaza Midwood is strong for errands but varies by block. Myers Park scores lower despite prestige because of large lots and less retail mix.
Transit
LYNX Blue Line serves South End, Uptown, NoDa, and University City stations. Gold Line links east-side districts. Station-area walk scores often beat drive time to Uptown at rush hour. Pair QoL transit proximity with actual CATS schedules.
Tradeoffs
High walk usually means higher sales indicators and smaller lots. Families wanting yards often accept lower scores. We do not display Walk Score (licensing). Use one method and stick to it when ranking options.
Test errands you actually make, including in summer heat and after dark.
